One of the largest Internet Service Providers was growing faster than it could handle.
America Online, Inc. (AOL) had experienced extremely rapid growth in a short period of time. Although they had seasoned, knowledgeable analysts and developers, they were facing growing pains. Their project turnaround time had increased along with the number of problems encountered after migration to production. The Internet Service Provider (ISP) needed to create a thorough life cycle definition that fit their environment, promoted higher quality, but didn’t stunt the creativity of the development staff.
Mind Over Machines assisted in the creation of a custom life cycle definition.
We conducted over 25 interviews with Vice Presidents, Directors, Analysts, Developers, and Operational staff to assist AOL in creating a custom life cycle definition. A thorough review was conducted of existing processes across the department and a consolidated, mutually agreed series of steps, processes, and document templates were created. The system included a process definition with key steps, who to include, and what deliverables to produce. We also developed useful checklists for project definition, requirement gathering, design, development, and testing.
